Life Drawing has always been the bread and butter of drawing practice. So since I’m currently on a mission to improve my drawing skills, here’s what I’ve been up to!
Admittedly these are all drawn from photographs but since I’m not able to get to a life drawing class at the moment, it’ll do just fine ☺.
Some of these I drew from stock photos found on the Internet and others I drew from a life drawing poses book. You can find a lot of great body pose reference photos on Deviant Art.
But if you like working from books rather than from screen (which I sometimes prefer) then the Virtual Pose series of books which include a CD-ROM are pretty good.
Rather than being a ‘How To’ guide, they have a range of poses photographed from different angles so you can pick and choose what works for you, giving you plenty of opportunity to practice. The only downside is that many of the images are of slender young women, so a bit samey, and the resolution isn’t super high.
Apparently the Art Models series (again, book & CD-ROM combined) is better and by the preview it certainly seems to have a bigger variety of poses and body types, as well as crisper images. So that’ll be next on my list to buy!
Can you recommend life drawings resources you’ve found useful? Do you like working from these kinds of books? Let me know below!
